Using sata m.2 in older pc

I bought this samsung 850 evo from a friend for $40. My pc doesn't have a m.2 slot on the motherboard. Can I get this adapter and make it work?

Check the key types on both. If they are not the same check what cross-compatibility is for the key types! This could make or break the adapter, but you can always return it.
