USB Dilemma

Jas99

My mobo has

2 usb 2.0

1 USB 3.1 Gen 1

1 USB 3.1 Gen 2

internal headers

my case front io needs two usb 3.1

cooler needs 1 usb 2.0

case needs 1 usb 2.0 for built in hub

will this work out?

Probebly it will. If not, you can get something from a company like nzxt for that.

Sorry I’m confused. Will the usb 3.1 gen2 header work with USB 3.1 Gen 1 port on case or do I need a USB 3.1 Gen 1 splitter (do those even exist)

If its the same connector then just try it. There are some kind of it, but dont get too sketchy.

You would be missing 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (or 3.0) header for your case. What is the motherboard and case type? Having only 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 header on a motherboard is uncommon and needing two USB 3.1 Gen 1 headers for your case is also uncommon, that's why I'm asking. Also, did you mean it has 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, or it actually needs 2 of those internal headers? Often 2 ports run via 1 internal header.

You could consider getting an internal USB 3.0 hub like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Port-Internal-Controller-HB-INTR/dp/B0794V75LB/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1540764611&sr=8-3&keywords=usb+3.0+internal+hub

But maybe not that one, it has very mixed reviews (with some saying it interfers with the PC turning on).

I couldn't find any other quickly on Amazon though, it seems to be a very uncommon product.

Your motherboard indeed has 1 internal USB 3.1 Gen 1 header, your case has two USB 3.1 Gen 1 port; but it only needs 1 header for those two ports. So all is fine there.

The smart controller thing of the case needs 1 USB 2.0 header and your cooler presumably needs 1 too, since the board has two; you're all fine there.

So unless you need to connect more than that in terms of USB devices (think stuff like; card readers which don't fit into your PC regardless.., other RGB stuff... That's basically it nowadays) you're totally fine in terms of USB headers and devices.

Does two ports only need one header? Wow
