So I have an old(mid/early 00's) computer and I wanna use it for trying bitcoin mining but I can't even install Google Chrome on it. It has 1 Gb of memory(it will probably have more) 1.65 GHz OC processor(amd Athlon or smth) but everywhere it says unknown CPU type. Can I fix it SORRY FOR THE QUALITY OF THE PICTURES!!!IMG_20181028_185738.thumb.jpg.2608eaa5c5c525ef2e75bda830f67806.jpg

Back in the Athlon days it was entirely possible to drop a brand new AMD CPU into an older motherboard that technically had support for the CPU but didn't have the latest BIOS installed so didn't know what exact CPU it was. The CPU would work perfectly (albeit at a slower speed than it was capable of) but would show as "Unknown CPU".

That's what you have, your board hasn't had a bios flash with the microcode update to allow it to ID your chip.

Please download a run CPUz or Speccy and post the exact board name and model.

Btw boards from that era required third party flashing utilities that normally have to be ran from a DOS boot disk.

Mirror here - http://www.x-drivers.com/catalog/bios_firmware/mainboards/companies/mercury/models/kob_kt266a_fdsx/4535

Two warnings, the download comes with a file called InstallerDU, please ignore this file entirely (it's probably a driver updater utility that doesn't work), the file you want is called KT26622a.

Secondly and most importantly. THIS FILE APPEARS TO BE CORRECT BUT I HAVE NO WAY OF VERIFYING IT AND FLASHING A BAD BIOS WILL BRICK YOUR BOARD. I'M IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR BOARD!
