Different drive size RAID

I've noticed a significant improvement in loading times when i put the game i play most on my ssd. Raid wouldn't improve anything? If so, topic closed

That's because SSDs have drastically faster random read/write speeds than HDDs, which is what games use, for the most part.

Depending on the strip size, RAID could help a bit, but it's not worth the inconvenience and increased chance of losing data.

My game drive (1tb) has started to fill up and i'm now considering to buy an extra one. Would it be possible to get a 2tb drive and somehow get it to work in raid 0 where i'd have one array of 2*1tb and make a partition of the 1tb left on the 2tb drive? My motherboard is a msi z170 carbon. Could I manage this with the integrated raid support?

You know you'll have to formate your 1TB in order to build the Raid Array? I wouldn't do it though.

formatting wouldnt be a problem when it's only games. As for why, raid 0 is faster.

On paper, yeah. For games, it will make basically no difference.

RAID 0 improves sequential read/writes for the most part, which doesn't benefit loading games.
