Networking Blues.....

Howdy Folks,

 

Spent all day, doing everything that info on the web has suggested. But, I can not get my two computers to network together. The Tower PC has Win 10 Pro, and the Laptop has Win 10 Home. Is that the reason? Do I need Win 10 Pro on the Laptop also?

Lets start with the basic question. How are the 2 computers connected?

If they are just near to eachother then no, you wont get a network going.

You quoted him but did you not read it? networking and remote desktop are 2 different things. No mention about the remote desktop from the OP.

How do you have them "connected" together? Are they hardlined via Ethernet cables to a switch, router, or using a crossover cable? Are the both connected to a wireless access point or isp issued wireless router?

Both are on an Ethernet network. In File Explorer I can see both. But I keep getting messages that I can not connect to either.

Did you make sure both have their network set to private? Both PCs have accounts with passwords? File sharing is enabled?

Yes to private. Yes to file sharing. No for accounts with passwords....

You need to add passwords to the accounts. 

 

Use netplwiz to have it auto sign you in. I even have an extra user account called “1” with a password of “1” for fast login. Not that secure tho
