Hey everyone,

I am currently looking for things to upgrade in my setup to get some better gaming performance, but the issue is that i dont know what is best to upgrade first and i only have a budget of around €200-€250 (if needed maybe €300).
I have been told lately that the best thing i could upgrade is my GPU to a GTX 1060 6GB eventho my CPU,motherboard and ram are way more outdated (i am going to upgrade my powersuply eitherway because it is justy a laugh).
So maybe some of you guys could help me with this problem.
P.S: I wouldn't mind switching to AMD, i have seen alot of good performance cpu's from them that outperform alot of intel cpu's (correct me if im wrong).
SPECS:
Operating System:
Windows 10 Pro N 64-bit
CPU:
Intel Core i5 2400 @ 3.10GHz
Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
RAM:
8,00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard

I would recommend upgrading your RAM from 8GB to 16GB, as the 1050 ti already pushes the limits of the i5 2400, otherwise you will need to pony up a lot more cash to make any upgrade worth it.

An upgrade to a Ryzen 5 CPU of any kind would be quite good for you. Ryzen 3 would put you in a position to upgrade easily as well, and technically be a good upgrade from your old CPU, but I think you'll get a lot more bang for buck finding a 1400 on eBay and getting a b350 board and some DDR4.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

You can go 1060 6gb (actually why not RX 580?) + new PSU route, but fps wont increase as CPU bottleneck kicks in. You can use higher graphics settings than what you can now though

Tnx for the reply, i have 2 questions tho.

One is that i have done some research before and many say that the jump from 8 to 16 GB isnt that big of a difference with gaming.
and 2 is that if i look with MSI Afterburner that if i play with high grapics it shows a usage of around 95/99% and the cpu is most of the time around 60% and the RAM is not even used to its full extend.

The 60% is due to the fact that most games can only truly take advantage of 2 your 4 cores.

Sorry if i sound dumb but what does a new PSU route mean, and the weird thing i have discoverd is that if i look with MSI Afterburner it shows a usage of 95/99% of my GPU when playing with high settings and a usage of around 60/770% for my CPU.

I have been looking for ryzen 5 cpu's and i have found the 1600x to have quite good performance to with not even being that expensive.
And than for the motherboard, should i look for maybe a brand like MSI so i stick a bit with one brand or should that not matter that much?

So it would be best to maybe getting a new cpu and motherboard, and than sell my old ram for some new ddr4?

Something like that, and that is probably going to end up costing you ~500, to get something good enough to make it worth your time, after you purchase all that then you can start thinking about upgrading your GPU.

If you plan on keeping your PC for a long time do not cheap out on the MOBO it is usually the first part to fail.

Than why do people that game alot even go for 6/8 cores when as u say they can only use 2 cores.

Because some of the newer games can use 4 cores, which leaves 2-4 cores for background tasks and streaming, allowing for a smoother gaming experience.

Thanks for the explanation btw, i pay in euro's so for me that is around 400.

But the ryzen 1600x is around €150 , than the motherboard is around €70/80 (maybe even €90) and the 8GB of ram i could get for maybe even €60 so that would be way les and still in my budget. (and i still can sell my older parts so i eventually pay a little less)

Brand isn't as important as quality of course, so I recommend a b350 board with good VRM heat sinks
