Hello , it's time to update my PC.

I wanted to ask, at the moment I'm looking at:

i5 9600k with a ASRock Z390 Extreme 4 - 369€ + 199€ = 569€ I would OC it 100%

but some people said to go Ryzen 2700x = 329€ + Board

Which Board should I choose? Is ryzen good for WoW:BFA? Will it last longer? Can I OC it?

You can OC any ryzen cpu (well, except for the athlon 200GE) as long as you have an overclocking capable board so basicly a B or X series. Will it last longer is something pretty much no one can answer, I'd say it depends on if games get more multithreading support. I'm also not sure how good ryzen performs in WoW, you'd have to google that or ask someone else. May I ask at what resolution you'll be playing and if at 1080p what gpu? Generally you really only see a difference in amd vs intel in their high end cpu's when you start playing at 1080p with overkill gpu's.

If that's how much the 2700X costs, I would definitely go with it. You can also go with the 2600X if you want to save some money, but still get great performance.

ATM using gtx970, thinking on upgrading down the line to a 1080ti or a 2080/ 2070 depending on budget.

Playing on 1080p 144hz monitor.

People mostly say WoW likes fewer but faster cores, that's why the i5...

or that, i was just suggesting a high performance tower cooler

remember to overclock the 2600 to about 4,1 maybe 4,2 ghz.

Just a guess, people are saying wow in next patch will feature multi core.
Probably maxing at 4 cores, atm it uses 1 (>.>) to be able to run on most pc's. Am I Thinking right?

If that's true the ryzen at 4.2 will be same as my i5 3750k @ 4.2, should I gamble the upgrade with wow being 4cores after update?
or spend more € and go with Intel?

you do get the added benefit of having extra cores relegated to background tasks (does improve it slightly).

and if games start using 6 threads (modern titles do that), you have SMT to do background tasks as the "real" cores are occupied.

no need to spend more if you arent going to benefit much from it, better of saving the money.

good thing with Ryzen is Socket support untill 2020, meaning a new CPU can be slotted into the sam mobo. though that is only relevant if you are going to upgrade that 2 years from now, which might not happen at all.

for the time being though a GPU upgrade would be more than enough. 3rd gen CPUs are still quite good as there hasnt been a major leap in performance since sandybridge.

But I think the bottleneck is my CPU, my gtx 970 can run most games at 60FPs, but god forbid in raid enviroment i get more then 30.

So should I go with Ryzen 2700x + MSI B450 Tomahawk - 329€ + 114€

or get a x470?

pretty much.

keep in mind X470 boards arent worth it untill you pay at or above 150€/$

the lower end X470 are essentially B450 boards

2700x with a x series board for sure, intel prices to performance is not worth it at all.

X boards are designed in the same way as the Z boards for Intel chipsets. They have more Phases and better VRM cooling to deal with the extra heat and deliver more stable power distribution to your board. It highly depends on how far you want to take your OC, if you want a light overclock on your parts then a B series will do, if you want a more hefty overclock then you will want a X board. The X boards are more premium but have much better power delivery which will help if and when you definitely for myself make the just to Ryzen 3 and 4. You will most likely keep the board until 2020 and onwards so pick wisely, its the main reason i picked mine so i am more future proofed for hungrier chips at the end of the Ryzen life cycle.

You should be able to use pcpart picker to find a case that will allow that heatsink to fit.

Either the X370 gaming f or the Gigabite K7, both are expensive but you pay for what you get and i think a lot of people will regret getting a cheap board in a year or two when they will struggle to run new Ryzen chips. I could be wrong but i feels its better to spend 50 or so more and be safe rather than spending a lot more if needed.
