WD M.2 BIOS Issue

Go to solution Solved by Uptivuptiz,

Ah I see what the problem is now. The slot you have plugged it in to is NVMe only. There's a second slot that supports SATA here:

Bought a new PC, I'm using this motherboard: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157816

I have this M.2: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820250090

I placed it into the Ultra M.2 slot I have, the only other slot is the M.2 WIFI which it isnt for. But when I start BIOS, which is flashed (updated), doesn't see it and I don't see anywhere to 'enable' M.2 as I've heard others say. What do I do?

It's the only thing holding me back right now... could my motherboard need drivers for it to be detected? It's the only storage I have and can't do anything until it's found.

They are compatible, right?

Could my motherboard not support my SATA M.2? I heard there is a difference between SATA and NVMe?

Yeah, so I have to get another that is NVMe, not SATA, right?

No no, the M.2 SSD is SATA. So there's no reason to buy a NVMe one. It will work if buy one and use it, but it's a waste of money...

Look in the manual for the SSD. Look for which key type it is. This motherboard supports key type M only. Try setting the SSD in the WiFi slot also and see if anything changes.

Ahhh, so I was right, but I didn't know there was ANOTHER slot HIDDEN where NO ONE could FIND it.

LOL.

It's showing up now, though I think this slot is slower on this slot?

Also, side note. sometimes when I turn it on, with a screwdriver since I'm not using case yet, it turns on and off 2 times within 1-3 seconds, but on the third time it stays on. It's done that a few times...

Thanks alot guys!

Thanks alot guys!

Asrock being a sneaky snek. :D The slot is regular SATA 3 so that's around 600 MB/s speeds. It IS slower than NVMe, but still  better than a HDD. :)

And you're welcome :)

How much better then a HDD? I mean if it's better to return this WD and buy a NVMe in the same price range... I should do it?

This is actually 1 dollar cheaper: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?reviews=all&item=N82E16820225109

If I'm not mistaken.. that link I posted, that SSD is like 3 times faster then the WD I have?
