Streaming using Roku

hello
sometimes when i watch something on Netflix or Amazon Prime (using my Roku), the sound
is choppy or goes in & out
for example, if the line is "roses are red, violets are blue" what i hear is
"ro--- --- red, v------ are --ue"
what causes this?
also, i don't have this problem watching Hulu
hmmmm...
