Anyone know if this change will require new hardware to utilize, or is this just a matter of a driver update for the USB 3.0 controller?

I think it will be new hardware. 100w is a lot of power.

You CANNOT force extra power into a battery. You'll either fry the charging circuit, or, even worse, you'll blow up the battery in your phone.

This is extremely dangerous.

This. We have seen so many times what happens if you try to make batteries charge faster than they "want to". Very, very, very bad idea.

Why can't tech just slow down sometimes, so I can enjoy the "best" for a while?  Oh, you bought the newest phone?  Ten minutes later...  Here is the new shit that will put your phone to shame.

My PC specifications are in my profile.

Well USB3.0 has been around since late 2008, so I'd say it's about time.

As people of said, you can't force unwanted/unusable power into a battery.  I'd like to see phones adopt this quickly; and no doubt will android and windows based phones do this. BUT, Apple's "lighting bolt", which I doubt they change, may be stuck in its ways.  I'd like to see a phone which charged fully in ten minutes, or had a huge battery which would maybe last weeks.

As I get older I get angrier more cynical, meaner. I feel some warning posts coming. I feel a ban coming. I was warned.
