Hey all, i've installed an MSI gaming x trio 2080 two days ago. Since then theres been nothing but problems.
My entire PC starts lagging at random points for seemingly no reason. There will be times where i'm just scrolling through forums, imgur or watching a youtube vid and everything starts to stutter.
The entire day it went well, but now suddenly it started happening again and i don't know why.
I've run my virus scanner multiple times, same with Malwarebytes and Roguekiller.

Sometimes when looking through speccy i see my CPU cores be stable, constantly. But then one of them will drop to 800 instead of 4100 MHZ. I don't know what that means,
I asked my friend to screenshare her speccy on her CPU, since we have the same one. The i5 8600K and hers is all over the place, going from 800 all the way up to 4100, jumping numbers all the time.
But she has no problems, none that she is aware of at least.

Other than that, when i open up task manager i sometimes see my processor jump to 50% or higher while i'm doing nothing but look at forums. And then it jumps back down to the regular 10%.
And with my GPU, while watching vids mostly. I look at the GPU tab in task manager and it sometimes jumps all the way up to 90% GPU usage while watching a youtube video.
I don't know what to do, i'm really panicking honestly.

Heres some screenshots of Speccy just in case.
My PSU is 80+ Plat 1200W

I've never paid attention to any of this before the new GPU, so i don't know if this is normal or not. All i know is that after i installed the new GPU, its been impossible to play games and sometimes even to just watch videos on youtube, netflix or anything else.

Really some of you can help. If you need any more info just tell me.

Why is your RTX 2080 only showing up with half the VRAM -- 4096 MB (4GB) instead of 8GB?

Do you have the latest nVidia drivers installed?

The RTX series is still a very new product, so there will be software bugs...nVidia should be pushing out drivers faily frequently in the coming weeks/months to fix them.

I see you are using a 1440p monitor; is your friend also using a 1440p display, or something like a 1080p instead?

I don't know why its running at only 4gb. Yes i do have the latest drivers installed.
And i know, but all of this still doesn't make sense. And for a GPU to be CONSTANTLY lagging my entire pc is driving me absolutely mad.
And she is running a 1080P monitor not a 1440P one.

When hovering over a gif, discord will jump up to a max of 100% CPU usage and 100% GPU usage. At that point my entire pc lags.
I tried doing it on purpose while looking at task manager and my pc crashed completely. Screen froze and then it powered down.
While watching videos on chrome or looking at gifs on imgur it will do the same. Also both 100%.
Is it maybe a good idea to download the old driver from the 27th of sept?

My pc is my everything, because of my illness i can't do much of anything except sit behind my pc to try and distract myself from my pain.
This is making me panic, very, very badly. My pc is the only big thing i spend money on. And now since i put in a new GPU my entire pc seems to be dying.
Tomorrow i'm going to put back my old 980Ti and see if i still have the same problem with that card in it.

If i do, then i really don't know what to do.
I really, really hope any of you can help me.

I'd be willing to get into a discord call to screenshare to show whats happening, or for you to tell me what to do.

When i do a an MSI Kombustion stress test on my GPU everything goes fine. I can run it for 10+ minutes without anything happening. Altho i do hear what i think is coil whine coming from my pc while its under load. Temps stay around 60 degrees as well.
But as soon as i start going on discord, or watching stuff on chrome. Or playing certain games, the entire pc freaks the fk out, lags like crazy. And now also crashes.

Normal, power saving feature.

Spike for a second or 2? That's normal imo. Go to process tab and check which exe is using the cpu.

Try disable browser hardware acceleration.

"System" is whats usually throwing up my GPU and CPU numbers like crazy. And yea for a second or two, but during that second or two my entire pc slows down to a snails crawl. My mouse teleports all over the screen, clicking anything takes forever. If i'm watching something it will freeze or stutter.

And i just disabled that setting in chrome, lets see if that works.
But i still don't understand why when just holding my mouse over a gif in Discord will make discord and system spike to use 100% cpu and 100% GPU making my pc crash.

Thank you for the info and tips.

So i put an old GPU back in and everything seems to be working fine again. I've looked up other instances of people installing new GPU's and then suddenly their CPU going to 100%. Causing tons of lag and crashes. Altho in those forum posts nobody seems to know the answer to it. And all i can seem to find is people answering back on their post. Like what i'm doing now, by saying the problem is resolved by putting my old card back in.

So theres a high likelyhood it was a faulty card then? Because right now everything seems to be running fine and smooth. I haven't had any lag issues. I can click on discord, play a gif there, WHILE watching a youtube vid and i don't see my CPU going above 20%.
I'm going to send back this card tomorrow. And i don't know if i'll get a 2080, or if i should just ask for some money back and get a 1080 TI. Because this kinda made me scared of the new cards.
