netflix and amazon instant causing computer to lag

About a week or two ago, netflix and amazon instant started to lag my computer, its most noticeable when using the mouse, it constantly stutters and feels like the dpi has been turned all the way down. The playback of the video itself even lags. The odd thing is though, with netflix, i dont even need to be playing anything for the lag to occur, just being on the website causes it. Ive tried using different browsers, using the app, updating drivers, going back to old drivers, doing fresh installs. Turned hardware acceleration off. I dont know what else to try, ive seen some other post on the net with somewhat of the same problem but none of them has solutions. Does anyone possibly have any ideas how to fix this. Running an i7700k and gtx 1070

Sounds exactly like what happened to me on amazon prime.  Just being on the site caused huge ~1 second lag spikes every few seconds

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

? Its driving me insane. I dont know what else I can try. Ive seen Nvidia say they know about the issue and they were going to have the fix in their next update, but that was 8 months ago, but ive seen issues reported from AMD users. If what ever is causing the issue could just be narrowed down. Is it, GPU, is it win 10, netflix itself ?. Very irritating

I have a feeling it's something to do with DRM since you says it happens on amazon prime video and netflix but no where else, but that's just a guess, and not one that gets us closer to a solution anyway

I just tested it with the netflix app, and everything seems to be working, so now I have no idea, Issues seem to only occur on browsers then ?

I have found that both Prime video and Netflix cause lag issues when run in Chrome. The way I get around it, I use Edge.

I tried with edge, that lag is less, but still there ?

  • 1 month later...

I'm having this exact same problem, and it doesn't matter which browser I use anymore.  It started in Chrome a few months ago, then I got sick of it and switched to Firefox, which worked for a while, then suddenly it started having the same problem.  Out of desperation I tried Edge, but it does the same thing.  Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Spotify all cause massive lag, and even cause the HDMI connection to my TV to become unstable.

Just figured out that if I disconnect 2 of my monitors and leaving just the main one connected, there is no lag. Still no idea of a solution though

Adding some more info

Amazon music also causes the issue :/ Could it be some sort of DRM issue?
