Since cloud computing seems to be gaining some traction lately, I'd like to know if it really is a cost effective thing.

Comparing with (my opinion) the best cloud computing service at the moment, Shadow, how much would it cost me to build a computer from scratch, with new parts, that matches the shadow performance?

Can we use the specs shown by this youtuber as a comparison basis?

He says for the money its not worth it, you can build your own machine. I'm looking for me hardware enthusiasts opinions

Well that Far Cry 5 benchmark is pretty damning. The 2.1 GHz CPU frequency is very low for current standards.

A desktop with comparable average framerates  (and a lot higher minimums) of an i5/R5 GTX1060/RX580 and 16GB of RAM would run you maybe $1000 and wouldn't come with the input latency of having your inputs and video streamed to your over a network and the image quality reduction from video compression.

That $1000 works out to around 2 and a change years of $35 a month payments. The cloud service isn't terrible value, but it's not good either and comes with compromises.

Some youtubers advertise this service as a $2000 PC. Is this bs or is there some truth to it?

If I go used parts I can get this even cheaper. Maybe I'll go for that instead of the cloud computing.

Regarding to lag input. Alot of youtubers say it is not noticeable, even when playing shooters (Overwatch mainly, not CS). The image compression may be an issue though, no youtuber talked about that.
