GPU fan header vs manual controller

Hi all,

I've got an EVGA GTX 1060 6GB mini and am regretting it because the fan is ridiculously loud so I've bought a Rajintek Morpheus II for it. Now what I want to know is how will case fans react to be used off a GPU header and how many fans is the header capable of powering?

this is a bit of a difficult one since gpu fans can have very different amp ratings or resistance's so i would compare the old fan to the new fans.

maybey you can get some in formation out of this video:

Current build: Ryzen 7 1700x, asus prime x370-pro, 16gb gskill trident z rgb, asus rog strix gtx 1070 ti, corsair rm650x, nzxt s340 elite, samsung 840 pro 256gb, 1.5tb hdd.

well then i don't know it anymore he explains a bit about fans and if the gpu can handle them.

if you wanna be safe just use a fan header and use a custom fancurve or a fan controller, just watch your temps and set everything accordingly

What case fans are you using? A gpu fan header adapter and splitter works well for pwm fans as long as the fans don't require too much power. You can compare the power draw to the original graphics card fans.

Is there a sticker at the bottom of the graphics card fan when yo unscrew it? You can see how much power it draws compared to the NF-F12's.

Haven't had a chance to look yet, cooler will be in my hands in about 2 weeks.

You can just get a powered hub and have it run off the gpu signal. Just need the little adapter for the card which is a few bucks and something like the swiftech fan hub which is cheap as well.

Oh, I've actually got a powered fan hub but have forgotten how it works. Does the power connector just provide power to the hub whilst a PWM signal controls the fans?

Yes.... assuming it’s the type that works that way.

You're correct. It splits a pwm signal to the fans and uses the molex connector for additional power.

Alrighty, guess I'll use that for the gpu and case fans then, thanks.
