Need some input between these two setups

Torrance117

Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z370 -E
CPU: Intel I7 8700

GPU: GTX 1070 TI

Monitor: ASUS - ROG Swift 24.5" LCD FHD GSync Monitor

or

Motherboard: Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero

CPU: AMD 2700x

GPU: RX Vega 56

Monitor: ASUS - ROG Strix XG27VQ 27" LED Curved FHD FreeSync Monitor

Both with 16 GB RAM.

Which setup would be better for gaming?

I'm not saying it's good anyway, but the first is better for gaming.

What would you recommend? I will mostly be playing COD BO4 on it. By the way I updated it with the monitors for them.

get yourself or an 8700k or a 2600 non x.

the k is higher clocked and you can overclock it.

2600x just has a higher turbo, not any other benefits.

but for gaming only the first build would be better

$2000 at Best buy.

I will get most of my items from BestBuy and the rest on Amazon because I have student prime.

Yeah one for gsync with nvidia and the other for freesync with amd.

Wat kind of cooler are you getting? AFAIK the 8700 throttles with the stock cooler.

I am new to PC building and have never overclocked. Do you recommend it for beginners?

i would recommend to watch a lot of guides and tests with the same chip. also, look up what sillicon lottery is. It's really important to know. But if you're not sure you can get a one time repacement guarantee at intel. if you're not sure just use game boost or asus's equivelent

what i would recommend is gpu overclocking, that's a lot easier.

I recommend getting overclocking items in general, for when you do actually learn how to overclock.

At 1080p Intel has the edge. If you want value for money though then go with Ryzen. You are still going to get a very capable system.

The board you chose for the Ryzen spec is great but you can easily go with a lower end X470 board i.e the Prime Pro or Strix etc. The 2700 non 'X' is also usually a bit cheaper.

If you are not doing any streaming or video editing etc then the 6 core R5 would also shave some money off. Might even be able to get a 1440p monitor with the savings.

Thanks guys. I am going with this setup:

Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z370 -E
CPU: Intel I7 8700k (Updated)

GPU: GTX 1070 TI

Monitor: ASUS - ROG Swift 24.5" LCD FHD GSync Monitor

RAM: CORSAIR - VENGEANCE LPX Series 16GB

Power Supply: CORSAIR - CX Series Modular CX750M 750W

CPU cooler: CORSAIR - Hydro Series H100i PRO

Harddrive: WD - Black Performance 1TB Internal SATA Hard Drive for Desktops

SSD: Samsung - 860 EVO 250GB Internal SATA Solid State Drive for Laptops

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-860-evo-250gb-internal-sata-solid-state-drive-for-laptops/6178653.p?skuId=6178653

A couple of questions though. Is 750W more than enough? Can I use this ssd on my desktop?

If so is this an overall good system to play COD BO4?

I'd suggest saving a bit on the cpu and motherboard. The i7-8700 turbo clocks are only 100MHz lower than those of a stock i7-8700K and therefore has performance very close to a non-overclocked i7-8700K.

CPU i7-8700

CPU Cooler Cryorig H7 or stock

Motherboard Asus ROG Strix H370-F Gaming or Asrock H370 Pro4

RAM the least expensive 2x8GB kit that is DDR4-2666 CL 15 or better.

PSU Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 650 or Corsair RMx 650W

Use savings to improve the gpu.

650W is more than enough for the build. But get a very good or excellent model.

If you already have a 250GB+ ssd, it can be used in the build.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Yeah I am only shopping at best buy because I have a best buy gift card that I want to use. I also have amazon student prime so I will be getting my case, mouse, keyboard, and windows 10 from there. Is this Monitor good? Are there better ones that are cheaper? I mainly got it because of gaming and because it comes with COD BO4 lol.

PSU has insufficient capacity if cpu and/or gpu will be overclocked.
