Randomly appearing dark shadows (backlighting defect?)

Heyho.

I have an old Samsung Syncmaster SA550 (1080p/60Hz) and since several weeks ago the backlighting (I guess?) randomly turns off at a corner or two or at the edges of the monitor (see attachment).

The result are dark shadows which make it hard to see through. They appear randomly (however more often when turning the monitor on) and disappear when restarting the monitor. Sometimes they never appear for several hours, and sometimes they appear every 5 minutes or so.

Is there anything I can do? Some sort of brightness and contrast configurations or some sort of software or am I out of luck and it's finally time to buy a new monitor?

Edit: Ignore the blueish color on the second picture. Something about my mobile phone.

That is definitely a problem with the physical backlight on the monitor itself, there is nothing you can do to help, other than messing with the backlight brightness to find the setting that reduces the effect (probably max 100% brightness).

You can try hitting it a few times I guess? But unfortunately you are going to need to buy a new monitor.
