Well without some form of connection it won't write to any system, it'll just fill up the storage on the phone. Where do you plan on storing the recordings?

Do you plan on having a USB cable running to the phone? If not, no. You need a connection in some way. Wireless, cellular, or (possibly a USB cable). If you aren't willing to use one of those, you won't have a camera.

USB might not even be option if its too old. Or atleast you need adapter for HDMI and capture card to record.
