excuse the long post.

i upgraded the motherboard in my pc a few months ago to an ASUS Z8PE-D18, and ever since then i've been having issues with my memory.

i figured out through troubleshooting that channel b is completely dead. if i place known good sticks in that channel it will give an error in post saying that the sticks in that channel have failed the memory test.

about a week ago i added another 4gb of ram i had lying around as a test. it didn't help.

the issues i'm having is random crashing of programs, especially programs that take up a lot of ram, like virtual machines, and complete system lockups and specifically for Windows various BSOD's.

i do still have my old motherboard that i used before this one and i used the same ram in that board and had no issues at all. i'm at the point now where if i can't resolve these issues i will have to go back to my old motherboard.

i just had memtest86+ running for 4 hours and 54 minutes and that didn't have errors. it was also on pass 0.. i don't know what that means.

the issues i'm having are present in both Linux and Windows, although Linux does seem more stable. i've not had any programs crash on me for days now, but i was playing Dishonored 2 and running a virtual machine in Windows before running memtest and both of those crashed on me.

i am currently out of troubleshooting ideas. i bought the motherboard used so it's entirely possible i bought an unstable board... if anyone has suggestions for things i could try still please tell me.

If it crashes in memory-intensive programs and your old board has no problems with that memory, it's entirely plausible that the board is just fucked in that regard.

yeah i was afraid of that... i guess that's just the risk of buying used things.
