Installing new GPU question

Windows has drivers in the OS by default, that's why you'll actually get display output when you first boot up even though nvidia drivers aren't installed yet. The drivers really suck performance wise, but at least they work.

 

You definitely need to uninstall them or you might get issues. Updating the drivers won't fix it because those are 1070 drivers and won't work on a 1080 ti

I currently have a GTX 1070 and I just got a GTX 1080 Ti, I know how to do the hardware installation, but all these guides are saying I should unstable my current drivers and wouldn’t that make my screen go blank because the GPU doesn’t have any drivers?mor should I just update to the latest one on GeForce Experience, take my 1070 out and put the GTX 1080 Ti in?

I did a GPU swap yesterday, swapped my 2x R9 290X for a single RTX 2080 Ti, and the first thing I did was run DDU to clean out anything related to AMD. Shut down, swapped out the cards (tedious process in my case because my 290X'es were on a water loop), when I had the new card in, I restarted my rig and run the driver installation program.

 

Be sure to download the new driver and have in ready for installation. Some have even gone so far as to disable WiFi or net connection because Windows would find and install the AMD/nVidia driver into your system, and these can be older drivers.
