My motherboard's chipset keeps overheating without any apparent reason and then the pc crashes . This happens within any timeframe ranging from 2minutes to half hour. They probability is highest when I'm using the PCI express (games or hd videos) . Tried both Linux and windows, and two different hard disk drives so they are immaterial . Please help

How's airflow inside your case? What fans are you using? Also, could you run a test like Aida64 so we can see your temperatures?

just because the chipset heatsink is hot doesnt mean it is the cause of crashing. Games and video playback stresses the GPU and CPU too.

In fact, the lack of heatsink on the CPU VRM is more worrying. Try find a fan of some sort and blow it towards the CPU VRMs.

Your PC is caked in dust, I bet airflow is awful. the downdraft from your CPU cooler should help stimulate some local airflow, so maybe it's time to remove your CPU cooler, clean it with some compressed air, and then replace the thermal paste.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

I had this issue with my system where my CPU used to overheat for no apparent reason and the system used to shut down.

Later i found out that my CPU cooler mount was damaged and causing all of this issue.

Please check if your CPU cooler is properly attached to the CPU.

Yes I have cleaned the processor and the heatsink and applied fresh thermal paste. it's still happening.

I'm awaiting isopropyl alcohol for cleaning it properly ,then I will update the status

Use HWMonitor to measure temperatures, you can get a better idea of what's going on

You can just use compressed air for dust

Oh dear, maybe it's time to take some things apart and get a deep clean going. Maybe a good opportunity to clean the graphics card and replace the GPU thermal paste as well

As you can see, that's my temperature rise just while I'm observing the game.when I'm playing a game, the temperature goes through the roof,CPU fan starts sounding like a plane engine and it cuts off output .

With a max temp of 69 Celsius as "temp1" (whatever that is), hardly anything is even hot. None of your components are reaching thermal junction, so nothing should be malfunctioning. This doesn't seem like a thermal shutdown, more so some kind of software issue. Is it possible for you to replace the can on your CPU cooler? It's possible there's a CPU fan header reading issue, although I know that size fan isn't super common, so it may not be easy.

I did just notice that 4383 RPM though, that is quite a speed. Since the CPU cooler is trying its best to apparently keep the CPU temp under 60 Celsius, maybe there's something you can change in BIOS with the CPU clock speed. The fx 6300 is pretty hot, and seems like a lot to handle for that little aluminum cube of a cooler, so if you're overclocking it may be time to let off the hardware a little.

I cleaned the dust thoroughly with IP alc and tried blowing a portable fan towards the mobo, but isn't helping . Also,I never overclock any component as the maximum use of my pc is limited to entertainment, mostly movies and MOBA .

I should also mention, that I build this pc 2years ago. Is age an issue? And,if I get liquid cooling will it help?

I think if you can get a graph of temperatures using something like aida64 it'll shed more light on the situation, because I don't see any thermal problems at all

That looks good. Since you aren't running into any thermal problem judging by that graph, there's a different issue
