rolotcw

Hello guys I'm due to a GPU upgrade, I have a Achieva Shimian 27" 2560x1440 monitor and I'm planning to buy 2 more next year. I don't know which to buy, I'm buying two card for SLI or CrossfireX. I need your guys help on choosing between the GTX 680 4gb or the 7970 ghz edt 3gb. This card are just for gaming, and I don't want a gtx 690 because I want to try multi GPU configuration. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

HD7970 Ghz Ed gets my vote as well. Running 3 HD7970 @1080/1450 in TriFire w/o issue.....on the other hand, my HD6990 + HD6970 combo has some issue, nothing to write home about though.

Get 2 7950 boost clocks and OC them.Cheaper and you can still find them.I just went through this same thing on monday.I wanted a 7970ghz edition and i was advised that a OC 7950 OCed will outperform a stock 7970ghz.I knew that and i though well what if i OC the 7970ghz then it will be better lol.Problem was it was hard for me to find the GHZ editions made buy a decent company as most are discontinued on newegg and i wanted to buy another at end of week. And the ghz i wanted was $505 and i only found it at amazon but amazon wouldnt give me the free games so i said screw it.Anyways i bought a His ICEQ X2 7950 boost from newegg for $349 with $150 in free games and i am ordering my second one when i get paid again in a week with another $150 free games. So for $700 i get 2 7950 boost cards and $300 free games and the 7950 is easier to find...Good luck whatever you choose you will be happy with these cards..

Only reason i bought my SLI 680 over the red team is for 3D gaming. If your interested in 3D gaming in general then go for the 680 if not, every1 else in this forum pretty summed up what I would suggest too.

If you've been watching linus's streams lately he had a guest on the show talking about how Fraps is flawed and it actually displaying the total number of frames trying to be displayed not the actual number (i'd go into detail if i was smart enough) anyway the guy said AMD in crossfire was the biggest offender of this problem which is why some people crossfire two cards and get massively increased FPS but the game ends up looking less smooth.

Edit: Don't take this word for word because i watched it during a live stream and was hard to follow but it's something you should look into if considering multi-GPU setup.
