Asus DSL-N55U Authentication issues.

So I'm having a few problems with a mobile phone connected to my Asus modem, some of the time it's able to connect to the network fine, and use the Internet, everything is great.

every now and then however, I switch on the phone and it just can't connect to the modem, it's running into authentication issues. I think I've figured out why this might be happening but I'm not sure how to fix it.

So when the phone sits idle for long enough it will turn off the WiFi to save power i guess. After this when you activate the phone it will power the WiFi chip and try to connect to the modem again as it should. The problem is that it can't connect, it just keeps running into an authentication issue. I'm thinking problem is the phone is not sending the message to the modem that it's no longer connected when it goes into standby, the modems DCHP service is holding the IP for the phone because it believes it's still connected.

After some time the phone will eventually renew it's DCHP lease with the modem and connect again, and everything is great again. it's becoming quite an annoying problem. Our tablet is also having this issue it seems, which is kind of leading me to believe maybe it's in fact a problem with the modem itself and not the device, however most devices are having no issues at all connecting and reconnecting after disconnection. (the phone and tablet in question are both very cheap devices and really not very impressive at all)

I've tried looking up a solution to this but so far I've had no luck.

Is there anything I can do to address this or has anyone had a similar experience before?

I can give more information if required. (both devices are running an android OS)

Turns out setting the device to DHCP (got it right this time) and setting the details up in there still result in an Authentication problem.

I was able to get the device to connect after restarting the modem, which is something I don't want to do every time someone tries to use the android pad thing.

*edit* I will try experimenting with a few things like disabling b/g protection and disabling Ai Radar (whatever that does) and hopefully report any results later.
