The 780 apparently has slightly worse performance than the 970. I have a gt 730 and i5 6400t and I want to upgrade my graphics card to perhaps get vr ready. Would a used 780 be a good route for vr or should I pursue a 1060 3gb. Alternatively, for the same price would two sli 780s be a better idea?

780 is gonna be pushing it for VR. Nvidia won't classify it as "VR ready" but my overclocked 780 gets 1060 3G performance, so in terms of pure performance it's enough.

I don't know that any VR games scale with SLI, so that might not be worth it. 780Ti will definitely be a better choice than the 780 though.

970 is bare minimum for good VR experience. If your budget allows, get one from eBay.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

GTX 780 Ti = GTX 970 = GTX 1060 3GB

For a good VR experience, I wouldn't buy anything worse than a GTX 1070.

I saw one video on YouTube of a guy SLI'ing (how do you even say that?) two 780's I think and he was getting a consistent 90 in a few games.

A few games is basically all the support VR SLI has, nothing else will benefit from it. You are definitely better off with a single more powerful card.

Those games likely supported SLI. As mentioned above, SLI is pretty much impossible with VR.
