Hi Guys :D

So I'm new to the forum & interested in starting as a YouTube content creator. I have Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 on my PC but every time I try to export a video (@ 720p in H.264)  My computer overheats & shuts down. I'm running an AMD FX 8320 with the stock cooler & Thermal Paste, Cause I was kinda less techy when I built this rig, so I'm wondering what you guys would suggest as a cheap fix to get it running cool. I am planning to build a new PC at the end of this year-ish, so Id rather not spend a lot of money or get a cooler that I can use on other sockets (like the LGA 2011 motherboard I'm looking at right now) & a good Thermal Compound.

I want to get a Corsair H100i but my current case has absolutely Zero Radiator support, again, I was stupid building this PC. I might be able to ghetto-rig it to the top of the case until I can get a new one, as I plan to upgrade slowly over time anyway. And right now Im looking at some Antec Formula 7 Nano Diamond Thermal Compound. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

You should get a H80, it should fit to almost every case, also you should look at different air coolers. :)

something like a cooler maste 212 evo or if it won't fit the cooler master tx3 evo should be fine. also think about your airflow in your case the.

You could download either http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/SysInfo/Real_Temp/ or http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html and look at your cpu core temps - how high will they get during the encoding?

If your cpu is over heating, a very cheap solution would be to limit your cpu usage in Windows.

To do this go to: Control panel -> System and security -> Power options -> change plan settings -> advanced -> processor power management -> maxium processor state.

Set this lower, like 70%. It will make your cpu slower, but at least you should get the job done.

CPU: Intel i7 3970X @ 4.7 GHz  (custom loop)   RAM: Kingston 1866 MHz 32GB DDR3   GPU(s): 2x Gigabyte R9 290OC (custom loop)   Motherboard: Asus P9X79

Case: Fractal Design R3    Cooling loop:  360 mm + 480 mm + 1080 mm,  tripple 5D Vario pump   Storage: 500 GB + 240 GB + 120 GB SSD,  Seagate 4 TB HDD

PSU: Corsair AX860i   Display(s): Asus PB278Q,  Asus VE247H   Input: QPad 5K,  Logitech G710+    Sound: uDAC3 + Philips Fidelio x2

Hows case cooling overall? Even stock cooler shouldn't overheat pc. It should start throttle before that. Except when it doesn't get enough fresh air to use.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I ended up getting a Cooler Master Hyper 212 evo from NCIX, but for the people who asked, my cpu was running about 30c idle & hit about 85c before the system turned itself off. It now sits between 15 & 19c idle & Iv only seen it hit a max of 52c on load. Case cooling is awful, especially now that my side panel fan doesn't fit anymore due to the tall cooler :/ I'll be getting a new case before I get any new parts for this rig for sure. Again, thanks to all of you. This was a very helpful first experience with the LTT fourm :)
