Good Morning.

I'm looking for a SAS controller, an older one just to put 16tb worth of SAS drive's into a cheap system to use as file storage... I don't want to run another enterprise type server for this!!! I'm looking for a card that will literally work in an older Win10 Desktop...
Needs to support 8 (Internal) SAS Drives via 2 8087 connectors... (If it does Sata too, that would be a bonus)
Needs to work on a standard DESKTOP board.. Not ENTERPRISE OR WORKSTATION!!!

Needs to be cheap...

Only need 6gbps, so older card is fine.

Needs to work with Windows 10.

Needs to be PCIE 2.0

Thanks.

I have this one on it's way, but i'm looking for a cheaper solution to add more drives to another machine also now..  Same type of setup, less drives. looking for a solution for under $50.  Like Dell PERC 5/6 etc...

Watch out for the older PERC cards, they have drive size limitations of 2tb.

Check out something like the LSI 9240-8I

I think that's true for a lot of older SAS controllers, and varies a lot depending on Firmware, and Card Manufacturer. But Thank you..
The only reason I'm using SAS drives for this situation is because I have a TON of used 2TB Seagate drives, so I'm determined to find a working solution... I think I have about 50 of these total, that I pulled out of service from a data center I upgraded...
If i wasn't paying for the electric, i would just run another dell or SuperMicro server (God knows i have enough still laying around)
These drives are already going to suck more juice than i'd like, but since i have them, i'm going to use them, because if looking at the power consumption difference between SAS and SATA drive's it would take WAY TOO LONG to makeup the cost difference (in saved electric) if I were to purchase a bunch of 2TB sata drives...  Plus I'm going to use 4 of these is a RAID 10 with a NAND M.2 accelerator as a Steam drive on another machine.

So I went with an LSI 9211-8i FW20 controller card.  In my test bench it works just fine, but once the card and one HDD is installed into the system I plan to use it in, it locks up on the PCI Bus Data loading screen. (The black and white screen which shows IRQ Data...
If i disconnect the HDD from the card, the system will boot into windows no problem.

In the test bench, it boots to windows with the drive connected.

AND YES, the boot device is set as my regular old SATA drive in the bios..

I've also flashed the latest FW onto the card, but still no luck...
ANY IDEAS???
