so I'm having some issues with my display - I've done beep codes testing and originally they came out with faulty RAM which we fixed by putting in new RAM so the RAM isnt an issue anymore so I'm assuming it's good. I'm were tempting to use dvi cable out of my 7870 with my older monitor umm the DVI cable Im using is it's like half its two sets of pins and I know it's hard to describe that I apologize if there's any grammar issues im using voice to text - so it's the DVI cable that has the negative on the left or whatever along with two sets of the square pins and the Monitor is always staying in sleep mode h any ideas?

Have you checked weather the gpu is plugged in correctly and weather it gets enough power? also sorry but did you try different monitors?

By the way dvi does not carry negative or positive, but the pins carry colours, or a digital video signal. maybe try a different cable, there are a couple of different dvi cable configurations (analog once and digital once) I am pretty sure that yours is digital and if the monitor is so old that it only supports analog then you either have to get a new cable or monitor...
