Hi, so since getting my new PC, I've been into GeForce Experience to keep up to date with drivers, and a thing I've noticed is that drivers are usually optimising for one game?

I remember one time there was a driver specifically optimising for a game but I can't remember which. This time it seems like it's doing the same unless I can't read to save my life.

Is it necessary to update every single time there's a new update or is it not worth the hassle? I'm using 398 at the moment.

I usually update for the sake of having it updated.

I seem to recall that as well, I remember Battlefield 1 optimizations, and a bunch of others.

391.01 for example:

Quote

Provides the optimal gaming experience for Final Fantasy XV, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Warhammer: Vermintide 2, and World of Tanks 1.0.

It looks like they're doing multiple optimizations per driver now.

I was on 398.(I think 54) up until yesterday. The reason is, there’s usually only one game advertised as being supported, but the driver likely has improvements in many games. You can read the patch notes for further details. The advertised game is simply to let everyone know that NVIDIA now has a driver that supports the latest game.

My Build, v2.1 --- CPU: i7-8700K @ 5.2GHz/1.288v || MoBo: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming || RAM: 4x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 2666 14-14-14-33 || Cooler: Custom Loop || GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC Black, on water || PSU: EVGA G2 850W || Case: Corsair 450D || SSD: 850 Evo 250GB, Intel 660p 2TB || Storage: WD Blue 2TB || G502 & Glorious PCGR Fully Custom 80% Keyboard || MX34VQ, PG278Q, PB278Q

The Experiment --- CPU: i5-3570K @ 4.0 GHz || MoBo: Asus P8Z77-V LK || RAM: 16GB Corsair 1600 4x4 || Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo || GPUs: Asus GTX 750 Ti, || PSU: Corsair TX750M Gold || Case: Thermaltake Core G21 TG || SSD: 840 Pro 128GB || HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB

R.I.P. Asus X99-A motherboard, April 2016 - October 2018, may you rest in peace. 5820K, if I ever buy you a new board, it'll be a good one.

Yeah, I read the patch notes for 399 just now, there's a bunch of games listed such as Shadow of The Tomb Raider (another one of these?), Call of Duty Black Ops 4, and Asseto Corsa.

This is the reason why I feel going full updated is kind of pointless if you don't play the listed games.

That's fair.

I still play PUBG, and I need all the optimizations I can for it. I've had random problems in the past where if my drivers were out of date, things wouldn't work.

Well you’d be right. And I played Black Ops 4 just fine without the driver. I might have gotten slightly better framerates with it but like I said, it worked fine

That's basically PUBG in a nutshell, is it not?

Correct. I also have a GTX 780, and PUBG struggles with older hardware in general from what I've heard and read.
