HELP First build, unactivated windows 10 on usb hdd

Please help me figure this out!

I've built my first system, but I ran out of money before buying a SSD. I only have a 4gb usb flash drive and a 750gb external usb HDD. I'm trying to figure out how to get Windows 10 to boot using the 750gb HDD until I can afford an internal SSD. I've downloaded the Windows installer onto the 750gb HDD because it said it requires >8gb of storage. I've gone into the bios and changed the boot order to usb but for some reason I cannot install the OS onto the same usb HDD and I'm wondering what will make this work.

I just want to be able to play some TF2 until I can afford the activation key, SSD, and games.

Download Ubuntu onto thumbdrive.

Disassemble external drive, take out harddrive. Put in your computer. Install Ubuntu.

Use it until you can borrow, buy a bigger thumbdrive...if you want Windows 10.

You can play Team Fortress 2 on Linux.

Better frame rate under Linux than Windows
