Does anyone know (because i cannot find any documentation on WD forums/sites/reddit)

IF i'm already using the 40TB PR4100, is there a way to partition a potion to act as a network drive automatically recognized for OS X without having to wipe it?

Usage: I want to be able to pull up legacy videos without having to copy it (i'm fully aware it won't be as smooth since they are HDD and not SSD) - but it is on a Cat 7 connection - but irregardless of that, does anyone know if i can appropriate a new volume that will be auto accepted by apple without having to completely lose my entire nas device/aka start from scratch?

How are you sharing the storage? A mac should be able to mount all normal windows network shares and nfs shares.

I can mount and read it but in order for FCPX to read and write from it, it needs to become a .dmg partition (or part of it does) - but i don't know enough about the device to figure out if I can do that while already having back up files on it.

the best way then is to enable nfs on the nas. FCPX is a good amount happyier with NFS. You can also change the samba settings to allow fcpx if you can get in the command line linux on this system.
