I am in the middle of saving up for my first self bought rig.

Up until now all my previous machines have been hand me down ones.

My budget is 35000 ZAR or $2344 (Current exchange rate)

My part list is as follows. (Note I am a huge MSI fanboy so of course my rig is thematic as well)

CoolerMaster MasterBox 5 MSI Dragon Edition (Already own the case)

MSI Z370 GODLIKE GAMING.

Intel 8th Gen Core i7-8700K

MSI CORE FROZR XL (I'm afraid of liquid cooling plus theme)

MSI Geforce GTX 1070 Ti

HyperX Fury 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 3466MHz (Red)

Samsung 970 EVO 250GB M.2 (Purely for my OS)

WD Blue 4TB

Corsair RM850i

I plan on adding more storage later on and some more customization like rgb fans but the current list is just to start.

I already have peripherals so they aren't needed.

Gaming is my main use for the rig, max settings on the latest games.

I decided to go as some have called it overkill because I don't want to have to buy a whole new rig in a few years. I want something that only requires minor upgrades.

Any advice would be great. Note my country doesn't stock all the brands for parts not to mention we pay out the hole for certain parts and importing isn't an option as our import tax is insane if you privately import anything.

If you play at anything above 1440p 60Hz, a 1070 Ti will not hold up to max settings. Also, I would look at the 500GB 960 Evo  M.2 SSD, it is only about 50$ more for double the storage. I don't know how much a mark up on products there are in South Africa(?), but you should be able to upgrade at least one more thing.

Don't forget a CPU cooler and a motherboard. I'd recommend a 240mm or 280mm radiator and a Z370 motherboard for overclocking.

My Build, v2.1 --- CPU: i7-8700K @ 5.2GHz/1.288v || MoBo: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming || RAM: 4x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 2666 14-14-14-33 || Cooler: Custom Loop || GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC Black, on water || PSU: EVGA G2 850W || Case: Corsair 450D || SSD: 850 Evo 250GB, Intel 660p 2TB || Storage: WD Blue 2TB || G502 & Glorious PCGR Fully Custom 80% Keyboard || MX34VQ, PG278Q, PB278Q

Audio --- Headphones: Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX || Amp: Schiit Audio Magni 3 || DAC: Schiit Audio Modi 3 || Mic: Blue Yeti

[Under Construction]

My Truck --- 2002 F-350 7.3 Powerstroke || 6-speed

My Car --- 2006 Mustang GT || 5-speed || BBK LTs, O/R X, MBRP Cat-back || BBK Lowering Springs, LCAs || 2007 GT500 wheels w/ 245s/285s

The Experiment --- CPU: i5-3570K @ 4.0 GHz || MoBo: Asus P8Z77-V LK || RAM: 16GB Corsair 1600 4x4 || Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo || GPUs: Asus GTX 750 Ti, || PSU: Corsair TX750M Gold || Case: Thermaltake Core G21 TG || SSD: 840 Pro 128GB || HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB

R.I.P. Asus X99-A motherboard, April 2016 - October 2018, may you rest in peace. 5820K, if I ever buy you a new board, it'll be a good one.

We are currently waiting for the 1080 Ti to drop in price here, The RTX cards are way too expensive here to even be an option.

I have a cooler it's the MSI Frozr.

A 960 Evo 500GB M.2 here costs $221 Like I said we have insane tax on imports.

Dont buy anything yet, wait for the i7 9700k and i9 9900k next month, also nvidia RTX will release soon so you should consider an RTX 2080/2070 instead of 1070ti.

As for cooler i dont recomend AIO watercooling either because of reliability issues and they are not better than aircoolers, neither the MSI Frozen cooler, get a Noctua NH-D15, if you dont like the theme of the noctua get an "be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4"(or even 3), for good air cooling always get a twin tower cooler like the ones mentioned, also optionally Cryorig R1(or R1 Ultimate) is good too. They are quieter than AIO and perform as good or better than 360mm radiator AIO which is crazy lol.

As for RAM goes intel doesnt benefit that much from better ram so any 3000mhz RAM should do, i dont know how much is kingston hyperx fury 2x8gb 3466 but if its like 100$ more than 3000mhz kit its not worth it, only for AMD Ryzen chips. If you do decide to go overkill on RAM, at least get Samsung B2 Die's RAM, which is the most expensive but its the only one worth it. There was some lists over the internet basically most of the 3200mhz 14-14-14 or 3600 16-16-16 RAM is samsung b2 die. https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/62vp2g/clearing_up_any_samsung_bdie_confusion_eg_on/

That msi z370 motherboard is really nice but you should buy an i7 9700k or i9 9900k when they come out next month and for that you should go for z390 chipset mainly because they will have support for 9700k/9900k out of the box, z370 will have support but they might need a new bios flash for that you dont wanna end up with a board+cpu you cant boot from, or have to find an old 8000 series cpu to update the bios lol.

Unfortunately Noctua, Be Quiet and Cryorig aren't brands stocked in my country.

We only stock basic brands like MSI,Cooler Master etc.

I'll look into getting lower speed ram.

Reliability issues is not a real reason to not buy an AIO these days. Also, unless the Pro 4 is really that much better than the 3, Linus' own video shows how much better an AIO is over that exact cooler. Only the NH-D15 can compare (sort of), and definitely not to a 360mm radiator. I don't know where you're getting your sources, but unless they are stupidly high binned CPUs, or in a terribly hot or frozen environment, a quality AIO will beat out an air cooler virtually every time. I thought this had been common knowledge for a long time.

Here's the Linus video:

Well you can rule out the 960 evo lol. I would recommend against the RTX line anyways based on their mediocre-at-best improvements on the 10 series. Again, the GPU recommended to you will change based on the resolution you play at and the frame rates you expect

the list looks good to me, only part i would highlight is you HDD, swapping out the WD blue for a drive that runs at 7200 rpm will make a "quality of life" difference to the day to day use of the computer. The 4TB Toshiba X300 is around $20 more expensive or the 3TB Toshiba P300 is around $25 less if you dont mind the step back in capacity.
