Upgrade From a GTX 1070 to a GTX 1080 Now, or to a GTX 1080 TI Later?

wait, since it's not a necessary upgrade. Patience is your friend and your desire for immediate satisfaction is your enemy.

Hello there, LTT forum. (First post!)

As you can (hopefully) tell from the title, I am currently running on a GTX 1070. I am currently interested in upgrading my graphics card, as the rest of my build is exactly where I would like it to be.

However, I have a dilemma; while I currently do not quite have the money to do so, I would love to upgrade to a GTX 1080 TI. But I am seeing that I would still see notable performance gains in almost every application, from games to editing software, even with a GTX 1080.

So, I bring this question to you: do I upgrade to a GTX 1080 now ($423 on Newegg right now), or do I save up a little while longer and upgrade to a GTX 1080 TI ($630 on B&H right now)?

Thanks for at least reading this!

-m0n4rchy

P.S, for anyone who might bring up the GTX 1070 TI, that is currently $400 on Amazon/Newegg/B&H.

Well, that settles it. I'll wait a few more months, and pick up a 1080 TI at around the current price! (Hopefully, lower.)

All g, I totally understand the desire to get an immediate upgrade, especially when the benefits are pretty clear. The temptation is very real.

Thanks for seeing my side of the story. In hindsight, I should have just gone with my gut to save up for the 1080 TI, since I'd achieve results (relatively) close to that of a 1080 by overclocking my card. Have a great day, and enjoy your GTX 1080, haha.
