PSU recommendations

Go to solution Solved by lmeneses,

Those often overestimate how much power you need, but I would still go with the tier 2 to be safe

Hey,

I just picked up an older budget system.

Phenom II 1100T

Gigabyte 990FXA UD5

16Gb Corsair Vengeance 1600 Ram

And an old EVGA SC 560ti

All for 40 Quid.  Now I've put it in my own case and teamed it with my 7+ year old OCZ ZT 750.  Problem is the PSU sounds like an effin' jet engine 70% of the time.  So I want to replace it.  I've been on Coolermaster's PSU calculator and it came in at 427W.

Will a Teir 3 Corsair CX-M 550 be enough juice?  Or should I pay the extra 15ish quid for a Teir 2 TXM 550?  My guts telling me pay the extra

With all the Trolls, Try Hards, Noobs and Weirdos around here you'd think i'd find SOMEWHERE to fit in!

those things are just random number generators, the CX550M will be more than enough for a 560ti.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

Be quiet Pure Power 10, 400W.

If you want it cheap and only use the PSU for THAT rig, you can go with System Power 9 or maybe even Xilence Performance A+. Or if you have a bit money to spare, get the Performance X, wich I highly recommend (its a pretty neat unit).

So its around 200-350W, as those things overestimate by 50% or more.

Yes, they are that bad. If you don't believe it, get a Powermeter. Is the Brennstuhl BM231 avialable in UK??

Yeah, I'll see if it is.  I've wanted a wall monitor for a little while now any

Ok, thanks for the tips ?. I may be donating the system to my nephew,  he's had a PS4 for a little while now but has just started big school.  So perfect time to start mucking about with a PC ??
