So I have a 1080ti connected to display 1 via DP and connected to display 2 via HDMI. The audio normally works but I've noticed for some reason it just goes away and eventually comes back. However, it never cuts out as it's working. For instance today I was on youtube, the video played fine, clicked another video and no audio at all. I can ALWAYS use my blu tooth headphones and get audio which made me think it was a problem with both cables (unlikely as the chance of 2 cables failing at the same time is low). I tried different cables and tried unplugging them and putting them back in, nothing. Tried restarting my pc and nothing. Tried unplugging the PC and nothing. I went into my audio settings on the nvidia control panel as well as my audio settings on windows 10, nothing. Tried reinstalling my GPU drivers, nothing. Tried doing a clean install of the drivers, nothing.

To be clear it's not a browser problem, firefox, tor and edge all do not play audio, neither do any applications.

Anyone have ANY ideas? I doubt it's a hardware problem but I can't find out whats wrong with the software.

Just to clarify, you're running the audio through one of the displays?

Yes, and I've tried both to make sure it isn't bad speakers.

May I ask why you aren't using the on-board audio of the PC as opposed to display pass through?

I use a little program called Audioswitch to swap between my speakers and headphones. It sits in the taskbar and lets you see where the audio is being directed between all your sources. I'd recommend downloading it and seeing if your audio device is just being switched for some reason.

I mean, you can do without it, but it's more of a hassle, Audioswitch is much quicker.

Unfortunately, that'll only tell you if Windows is switching sources or not, and not the reason behind it, but it's a step I guess.

What's display pass through? I'm using my gpu as opposed to onboard graphics so I thought it would also mean I'm not using onboard audio?

You can use any audio device in conjunction with any video device.

Are you using headphones or speakers? What are they plugged into?
