So, I did something incredibly stupid.

I won't go into reasons right now but while my computer was running I used a metal screwdriver to lift up the fan header on my graphics card (it's single fan). This resulted in a spark jumping between two of the pins, and a now dead graphics card. Any ideas as to whether:

A) it will be obvious I am at fault if I issue a return

of

B) there is any way to fix this

I think you could do a return and play "I didn't do anything" guy.
