oh well, the answer should be NO then.. the 1080ti is a beast of a card and will continue to rock solid and perform exceptionally well for another 3-5 years at least.

So I asked myself should. I skip TURING because i mean i know the reason nvidia released Turing is as a stop gap for their 7nm GPU(Navi <hypothetical name>) and so know the question to Buy a RTX 2080TI OR wait for "Navi"

Depends. What card do you have now? Does your current card give you the level of performance you want/need? If you can answer yes to the previous question, then yes, skip turing. If the answer is no, then wait until reviews are out in a few weeks, September 20th, and then make a decision if its worth buying or not for you.

I would say yes, skip Turing. I am planning on skipping it with my 1070.

Hi

I skipped the 7000 series because they dropped the vram from 4gb to 3gb. The extra performance didn't matter to me because I was getting over 60fps at 1080p with my GTX 680 4gb. I am in a similar position now.

My GTX 1080 ti is good for 100 to 120fps on my 3440X1440 WS monitor.  I don't need an upgrade to run existing monitors of that size.

My other GTX 1080 ti is good for 60fps on my 32" 4k 60hz monitor. I have no need to upgrade unless an affordable 100 to120hz 32" 4k monitor with HDR comes out.

If I was running a 1440 165hz monitor or a 4k 144hz I would be looking to upgrade as soon as possible. But since I like my action games at 1440 x 3440 & my eye candy games are 60hz/60fps 4k I don't need to upgrade yet.

I am more interested in better CPU performance since 90% of the lows(dips in framerate) I get in games is CPU related.

That doesn't mean that I am not getting Turing. I am just not getting it now.

I will probably skip Turing too.

We have not still seen benchmarks, but even admitting that those games aren't still optimized what I've read so far is that with ray tracing we will see 30-50 fps on Shadow of the tomb raider (without global illumination or reflection), 40 fps on Metro exodus (without shadows and reflections) and 60 fps on Battlefield V (without global illumination and shadows). On the most powerful card, the 2080ti that costs 1200 dollars. So if one wants to buy for ray tracing right now, he has to spend 1200 bucks on a card that has barely acceptable performance that could be used for ray tracing with very few games.

When next year we could see Nvidia passing to 7nm, and hopefully some competition from Amd and maybe Intel too, something that will probably have an effect on prices. And maybe there will be some more game too.

I was running 2 x 1080Ti Evga K|ngp|ns and immediately sold them to pre-order RTX 2080Ti, I think if you were serious enough to be running a Strix, and you have the cash, you should have pre-ordered the 2080 Ti. Alas my friend, I believe they are going to remain 'sold out' for most likely the remainder of 2019. I anticipate the reviews that get released Monday will create a frenzy and the 2080 non-ti's will sell out quickly. It is so frustrating reading all the posts from RTX haters, that have probably never owned a 1080ti, Titan, Geforce Ultra or any other high-end ($800-$1200) GPU over the years. They are constantly chiming in, 'Like they know' when they truly don't. High-end PC gamers (Those running  i9's, High Refresh or Multi monitor setups, multiple GPU's, custom loop cooling, etc.) have all pre-ordered the RTX 2080 Ti's, that is why Nvidia and ALL it's partners launching the cards next week have completely sold out of THOUSANDS of cards.......WE WANTED MORE.....and this was it....The last several generations of Titan's were $1200, and they always sold......this is no different.......I'm in.....AMD HD7990 = $1000+, NVIDIA GTX 690 = $1000...both garbage by today's standards but we paid those amounts 6+ Years ago.....Why is everyone crying this time around? Non-educated (regarding GPU's) or those that don't budget properly and can't afford the card are deterring would-be buyers. Cost is not an excuse, when I was 13 I saved all summer (working for $3.35/hr) to purchase the newly released Pentium 90mhz CPU for $1,100 and felt like a king (until the 100mhz came out just after). People had two years to save $1,200 for a GPU, whether it was a Titan T or 2080Ti, we all new a $1,200 card was coming. $10/week in the GPU fund would have covered the cost, even less when you figure any value 1080Ti owners have for resell. High End PC gamers are crazy, but passionate about every single extra FPS we get, every single point on 3dMark.....many will not understand this obsession......Haters always gonna hate!

well I'm sure they will be passionate about every fps with this card with ray tracing and with a good reason, if 40 fps is what one could expect to see on the most powerful card.
