Hi,

I'm looking for a pc for college work and gaming.  I play pubg, battlefield and fortnite. In college i have heavy workloads in solid works, rhyno and Ray tracing rendering. I currently have a half share in a rig with my brother which is:

Cpu: core i7 4790k cooled with hyper212 evo

Gpu: GTX 950 sc evga

Ram: 8gb ×2 gskill  2400mhz

Motherboard: asrock z97 extreme 3

Psu: evga supernova b2 750w (which I have for many reasons other that it's outrageous size for my build)

Memory: crucial ssd 120gb

2tb wd 7200rpm

I realise this is a mix and match build. I was given the psu for free.

Option one is to buy the whole pc and upgrade it but I'm not sure if it's too out dated?

Second option is to buy a new pc. I was thinking core i3 8100

M.2 storage

GTX 1060

Not sure what I should do

I'm based in Ireland and have a budget of 600 euro. If I go with option 1 i will have 300 to spend.

Thanks in advance.

My pc knowledge is limited so don't get mad with my mix and match build.

The Haswell based Cores are still quite capable if you wanna postpone a refresh (+ spare yourself the task of grabbing DDR4 Ram etc.)

You could still add non Boot M.2 Drives via PCIe Cards. In addition a GTX 1060 or even 1070 wouldnt bottleneck and run fine on your system as is.

You could keep the System as is and throw in a Graphiccard of your choice either an RX 580 or GTX 1060 (or wait to see what the 2060 is like) and grab a PCIe card + M.2 drive (Something like a Western Digital one) or just add a normal SSD via Sata

Didn't know I could add m.2 via PCIe cards! Thanks so much. Will I get the full potential of the m.2 drive if I use PCIe?

Budget M.2 drives arent much faster than Sata drives though (just saying) and yes (M.2 is PCIe as is just with a special connector more or less)

And again remember you cant BOOT them on older Mainboards so you can just install games onto em or store data but not windows. (at least if its high performance NVMe)

Not at all. M.2 is a form factor and it can use either SATA or PCIe interface.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!
