2 part question...

I want to set up a pfsense computer, and I have the parts for it, all figured out and everything, BUT...

1. I have a:
Intel C2D E2140 and a
Super Micro Computer X7SBL-LN2 LGA 775/Socket T - http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon3000/3200/X7SBL-LN2.cfm

Being this computer will be in the basement, do I have to worry about condensation? Should I shrink wrap it, or... LOL

2. Also it being in the basement, do I really need a heatsink/fan? Or a fan cooling the system?

To the upper 2, can I just put this on a board and put it up on the wall? Albeit it will need some protection.

I mean, it all depends on if condensation happens in your basement. If you see it happens, then I dont know about shrink wrap, but some other alternative. And yes, it will need a cooling system

Condensation should only happen if the computer reaches a temperature that is less than the ambient temperature, which won't happen with air cooling. You also always need some sort of cooling for a computer, or else it won't last 5 seconds, so a simple heat sink and fan would be good. You could probably put it anywhere in the basement, but if you live in an area where it can flood, I'd advise against putting the server on the floor.

Yeah, would a passive heatsink do?

I plan to have like table/shelf to put that computer, and also my switch, and the internet/phone/tv cable modem.

A large passive heatsink might do but it might be cheaper and almost as quiet to run a smaller cooler with a fan.

Yeah, I have a Artic Freezer on there right now. I was just wondering if there is another option.

It should be enough cooling with the fan at low rpm but probably not passively.

Since we are on the same subject, my board did not come with an I/O shield. Do I have to spend $15 at eBay, or make my own? Use duct tape and saran wrap, or...

Unless you're worried about things falling into the system through the rear, there's no need for the I/O shield.

Well, unless Im worried about "bugs" getting into the computer, I don't think ill have any issues. I'm sure I'll clean it off every now and then.
