Halfway through a new build, I have my AIO CPU block installed but have run into clearance issues with the little heatsink above the CPU on my motherboard (My motherboard is: The ROG MAXIMUS X HERO.)
Would I run into any issues with performance or temperature if I removed the little heatsink to provide the needed clearance to mount the radiator at the top?

Thanks in advance for any help
:)

The heatsink is for the VRM so i advise not to do so.

I don’t know about the heatsink and how important it is, but if you have good case cooling you should be fine. Don’t quote me on that.

What you are talking about is most likely the VRM cooling. Do not remove this unless you replace it with another cooler. having your VRMs run too hot can kill your motherboard and make the system perform emergency shutdowns. There are a few aftermarket options available so see if you can find a low profile one that fits your motherboard. If you have enough airflow over the motherboard a smaller heat sink can do well enough to cool the VRMs

This is hardly urgent, please use the title to describe the problem next time :P

It should be ok to remove it, but you would run into heat problems with your VRMs if you were to overclock your cpu. I suggest you mount the block upside down or tilted by 90 degrees if possible.

I don't see the problem. The cooler looks like it fits fine.

Here are plenty of examples of the cooler fitting without any modifications to the motherboard: https://pcpartpicker.com/builds/by_part/tqKhP6#h=362,361

The radiator isn't installed yet, it's sat on top of the case while I figure it out.
When I tried to install it, the heatsink stopped it from fully going in and stopped the screw holes from lining up with the top of the case.

Can't u install it to the front of the case instead?

Yeah, I decided to just do that. I wanted to see if there was a way to avoid doing it as I'm running short on time and wanted to avoid having to re-shuffle things around but from most of the answers I can see, removing the heatsink would be a bad / not recommended idea.
Thank you very much for all the answers.
