Both avast and avg are recommended by many. I myself just stick with windows security essentials and do a malware bytes scan every couple of week. I've had too many false alarms and too many missed attacks to trust anti-virus software myself anyway.

My rig: 2600k(4.2 GHz) w/ Cooler Master hyper 212+, Gigabyte Z68-UD3H-B3, Powercolor 7870 xt(1100/1500) w/AIO mod,

8GB DDR3 1600, 120GB Kingston HyperX 3K SSD, 1TB Seagate, Antec earthwatts 430, NZXT H2

Verified max overclock, just for kicks: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2609399

I don't use it. But I have the option to. I'm just giving recommendations.

Even if it does come free, I would never use it. I work on hundreds of computers and never had a single good experience with Norton. It's detection rate isn't as good as something like Avast and it is a pain in the ass to work with.

but doesnt avast after a little start saying, "pay me cuz u no protected anymore" after like a month or some shiet

If you register with an email address (you can use a fake one) you will get a full year subscription. When that runs out you can just do the same again for another year.
