Defrag mac = faster mac?

I was wondering if defragging my mac would make it faster. If defragging won't work, what will speed up my mac?

I've tried to clear up my storage, delete useless programs, disabled pointless settings (animations, dashboard, etc).

Is there anyway?

HFS+ doesn't really have the same fragmentation issues as ntfs. So it won't help much.

 

What mac is this? The best way to speed it up is a ssd.

An Imac from late 2012. The heat vents were a bit dusty though and the surface is really hot (it burns). I cleaned it up, still a bit hot. Is over heating the problem or is it something else...

Very unlikely to be overheating, you can check though. Put a ssd in it if you want faster though. You need the temp sensors override for the drive though.
