I was wondering how should I continue with this build, what are your suggestions? Is whole platform change neccessary (Intel 9th gen + Mobo + RAM). Should I just get an GTX 1080Ti or RTX 2080 (whatever the benchmarks closest one is) expecting 4770k can keep up with it? Can the PSU even hold up with an 1080Ti for example?

Things that I'm mostly sure I'll do eventually with the build:

- Change that 1080p panel with simmilar, same sized Dell 1440p 60Hz panel

Feel free to share your thoughts!

Buy a used 1080ti for like $500 soon ish if you want more GPU performnace

PSU is fine for it if you don't do heavy overclocking and then run furmark.

CPU is probably fine for another few years unless you just want more cores on the cheap with Ryzen. The i7 2600K is still mostly fine.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I would start by upgrading the graphics card as your current CPU should be able to keep up with 20 series in games and similar apps. Maybe also upgrade to 32GB of ram as some games are demanding more than 16gb of ram at high res+framerates (but don't make this a priority).

The 20 series appears to be a joke and a waste of money if it's only a 20-30% performance bump at $1199 vs the 1080ti.

It might be too soon to tell how much of this is driver related as historically older cards with more refined drivers have seemed to keep up with new counterparts at first only to be left in the dust in a few months.

That was one of the very likely scenarios

Never so far got to max out 16GB :'D

After Fermi Nvidia made drivers auto throttle card when detecting Furmark and games can reach completely same power draw level.

AMD cards behave also in same way.

With current prices inflated by cartel of DRAM makers no sense in that.

And resolution affects to GPU memory usage, not CPU memory usage.

Again higher frame rate doesn't increase memory usage, because GPU doesn't store any more frames in its memory.

(and neither has game engine any use for storing game state for more frames)
