Hi everyone. Today I completed my first new build and installed windows 10 pro via flash drive which I bought from Amazon.

After I had completed the installation I noticed that the c drive seemed to be partitioned with the smaller section occupied by a windows clone. Is this normal for windows 10 pro after a brand new installation?

Normally, you would have 2 or 3 or 4 partitions depending how you installed Windows 10, and your system configuration (you can have more partitions if you create other ones, but assuming a standard basic setup)

For the old BIOS (or UEFI set to Legacy mode), you should have 2 or 3 partitions:

  1. Windows (and your stuff that you can put after the OS is installed)
  2. System and utility partition (tools to allow you to recover your system in the case of OS level failures. It includes: Backup recovery, System Restore, Command Prompt, Memory tester (RAM) and Startup repair tool)
  3. Recovery partition. (optional - usually found on pre-made computers)

For UEFI:

  1. Microsoft reserved partition (MSR). Short story: Needed for boot process of the OS, in this case Windows. The UEFI looks for that.
  2. System and utility partition
  3. Windows (and your stuff that you can put after the OS is installed)
  4. Recovery partition
