Hey guys, I'm in the process of trying to expand my current plex server that's to something a bit more scalable. I currently just have it running off my PC with a 3tb and 5tb hard drive installed.

I ideally want to take these out so I can have my whole PC running from SSD's and then have an external drive enclosure to house all my drives for plex. The issue I'm having, however, is deciding between a NAS or a DAS.

Either way, I would still run the actual server off my PC,

If I were to get a NAS, within my budget the best I could get would be a 4 bay like the WD EX4100, my issue here is I'm limited to 4 drive bays and once they're filled would probably have to buy another NAS I assume?

My other option is something like "Icybox IB-3810u3 10-Bay External SINGLE System for 10 x SATA 3.5-Inch", this would be great however I've only just started looking into these and aren't quite sure how it would work. I plan to slowly add more storage over time, with windows could I keep expanding the partition over time? And if so, with Windows 10 can I have a partition in theory that was 100+TB? As id ideally just want one partition with everything PLEX on.

My other question is how does this DAS connect to my PC? Will it be fine over a simple USB 3? Or will I need an eSata or something? As I only have USB 3's to spare.

Sorry if this is really complicated, I just hope someone is able to help xD

Thanks!

My name on everything is mac300010 but I messed up making my account on here so mac30001 it is B|
