With that budget you'll cover most anything. Given you don't know much about building systems, I might suggest, assuming you live in a place with a good selection, hitting up craigslist and buy something slightly used. You'll save a ton of cash, and it'll already be built for you so that hassle is avoided.

 

Alternately, a number of brand name companies these days make nice gaming boxes, Asus, Dell are two I'd go for just off the top of my head
