Hey guys.

Currently been looking for a laptop to use for gaming while I'm away from my gaming desktop.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1535346370&sr=1-1&keywords=laptop&refinements=p_n_feature_five_browse-bin%3A13580790011&dpID=41v2oytxs9L&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

Current budget is about $1000, but I could perhaps go up a couple hundred or more, not looking completely for something too big, since I already have a main gaming desktop. Any thoughts on this?

Found what seems to be another version of this laptop.

I would go with the second model. the first one has a GTX 1060 but only a 60hz panel so you wont even be able to make the most of the card. The newer model has a 144hz panel and an 8th gen cpu. Definitely go for the second one

The Helios is a decent machine. Nothing great but nothing terrible.

For the price, it's not bad especially since it has the 144Hz display. Definitely do a repaste and undervolt
