So I have a second generation fire tv. Firstly, would it be worth building my own HTPC when I have the fire tv or can go to the nvidia shield.

secondly what would a decent HTPC build look like

Hello!

Main question to ask yourself is, "Does my FireTV stick do/show everything I want?". There is no point getting together an HTPC, if you don't really need it.

If you do really want to make a HTPC, what is your budget for one? Will you be assembling it, or buying one?

I once did the unthinkable, back many headphones ago...

I split an audio split, again

Firstly I don’t have the fire stick. I have the fire tv box similar to the Roku box

So my fire tv is second generation (from 2015). I have a lot of streaming apps on them ;) (if you know what I mean). Anyway sometimes my fire tv doesn’t start or it feels like it lags in the commands I give it from the remote from all the things I have on my fire tv.

my budget would be around $400 for an HTPC. I have a decent set up with a 60 inch Samsung tv and Sony sound bar.
