cpu Potato PC upgrade

Hello, long story short: I somewhat smashed down my pc case, broke my graphics card and that opened the doors for me.

What i have now:

• FOEM 300w Power supply
• 2x Kingston 1333 mhz 4 GB Ram (I borrowed one of them)
• HD 5570 (Borrowed - RIP geforce 210)
• Intel Dual Core Pentium E5700 3.00 Ghz (stock fan)
• Gigabyte G41MT-S2PT

I'll buy an used GTX 750 From a trusted platform like ebay, but here is the fact, I play mostly source engine games and that means the cpu is the main component. But i don't really know which one should i choose because i don't know if the:

• Modding will result in a Motherboard brik
• Power Supply deliver enough power
• Motherboard supports it

buy the 750. THE CPU's fine when overclocked. You should be able to push a bit more there even with the stock cooler. Intel's stock stuff back then is much better than they are now

what kind of budget do you have?

 

it may make much more sense to simply exchange al l the internals and buy a ryzen 2400g or something which will give you more CPU and GPU performance at the same time.

you should be able to find a cheap core 2 quad for a couple bucks to upgrade to, the extra cores will help out if you start playing more than source ganes.

Its some bootleg or some brand that produces stuff in turkey, i don't really know.

I prefer intel and nvidia rather than the AMD. Also i will buy everything used since this system is 6 years old.

I see alot of modded core 2 quad cores for lga 775 port. Is it safe to use them?

you mean the lga 771 xeons? they're fine, but you'll need to be careful with the mod and check if your mobo is compatible with its TDP and FSB speeds.

E5700's TDP is 65 watts,

750's is 95 watts. It's a bit too much

I refer to the gtx 750 graphics card.  No way I would recommend you to upgrade to the i5 750, that's not compatible with your mobo and wayyy too old to be considered from a Core 2 Duo.

Thats not the i5 then. Also i rarely play other stuff than source engine so a fps drop wouldn't be cool
