Computer for engineer student.

I need a laptopfor engineering studies.

We use programs such as autocad and revit except for normal text and powerpoint computers. 

I have a very good pc at home, but i need one to take on the go as well.

I would personally get LG Gram 2018 15inch 16G ram version for the weight plus you have "very good PC" at home you can do heavy lifting like rendering at home(remote desktop). Revit is more CPU intensive and from what I remember don't benefit much from GPU.

For me it doesn't matter, i have a giant brick now so i'm used to lugging it around. The battery on that one is also shot, so whenever i take the power cord out it turns of in a matter of seconds. so for me that is not a deciding factor

i would like it to be as cheap as it can, but i know it costs a bit. perhaps 1000$

could i buy a laptop with 8gb ram and add another 8 or buy 16gb sodim and add the other 8 to my older laptop?
