I've got an HTPC put together that I bought from a friend after he didn't need it anymore. It's got an i5-3570K inside, overclocked to 4.0 GHz, that, for some reason, turbos up to 4.6 GHz anyway (and subsequently runs at about 105 C under load without thermal throttling by any stretch of the imagination. I've got a Noctua NH-L9i installed, and it does a fairly decent job, but my CPU package is always idling at about 45-55 C.

 

I have come to three solutions to this problem, and I need your guys' help in determining a solution.

 

1) There's a full-size EVGA 1060 6G in there too, but I was thinking, if it would fit, about sticking a fanless Corsiar H60 in front of the fans of my GPU, using the GPU fans as the rad fans, sucking the hot air through the GPU or (it kind of felt like one fan was pushing air and the other was sucking air) put it in front of the other fan. 

 

2) Sell my full size 1060, and get a superclocked smaller version and put the rad and fan next to it

 

3) Just invest in ThermalGrizzly Conductonaut. I've been looking into this, but I don't think my cooler is adequate enough. Any other HTPC form factor coolers that you would recommend if this would be better than putting an AIO in?

 

I did see that Bitwit has made a video of this exact case, so I know it isn't impossible. Just want to know what more experienced users would recommend before I try anything.

I have a similar setup, 6600K w/ intel tim OC'd to 4.0GHz at 1.2V with a Noctua NH-L9i in a Node 202, I'm idling a couple degrees above ambient and in a normal environment my synthetic load temps stay in 60s. I removed the 92x14mm fan that came with my CPU cooler and swapped it out for a thicker 92x25mm fan to get more airflow.

 

I have the CPU fan acting as an exhaust fan, and I have two 120x25 pressure optimized intake fans in the GPU chamber blowing on my 1.5 slot (passively cooled GT1030) GPU which also has very good temps, although this isn't surprising.

 

That idle temp is pretty high, I'd check your cpu core voltage and thermal paste application before anything else, but that overclock is pretty substantial and might need to be dialed down a little.
