Hi

I have a pc with i5-3470 ,gtx 1050 ti ,6gb of ram

I recently upgraded my ram from 4 gb to 6gb

Ram is now 3×2gb .

I noticed a big decrease in preformance of games

I was running bf1 on 70 fps now its like 50

But i don't know what's the problem

welcome to the Linus Tech Tips forums!

when introducing the third 2GB stick, you moved the system back into a single channel mode.

removing the third stick, does the system improve?

That shouldn't be a problem though. I am running 3x8gb sticks in my build and they're running in Dual Channel, same performance as 2x8gb.

DDR3 or DDR4? How many Megahertz are your sticks running at? I'd the new stick is at a different MHz "rate" that could be the problem

on your motherboard page i saw that if the system is 32 bit only 4 gb will be displayed

https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Motherboard/GA-Q77M-D2H-rev-10#sp

4 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 32 GB of system memory

* Due to Windows 32-bit operating system limitation, when more than 4 GB of physical memory is installed, the actual memory size displayed will be less than 4 GB.

Lets talk RAM. A stick of ram depends on what’s known as timings to write/read/maintain data stored on them. There is more to them than just the Speed in MHz.

your integrated memory controller (IMC) is in charge of maintaining the data in your ram. When you mix and match ram stick with different Timings the IMC has to figure out a timing set up that works for ALL the sticks and usually ends up with “looser” timings which slow the operation of ram sticks. Occasionally the IMC can’t figure things out and the whole thing won’t post.

now the fact that you’re using an odd rather than an even number of sticks adds more insult to injury by likely taking you out of dual channel into single channel setups. Refer to the manual of your motherboard to check what would happen when you add an odd number of sticks, they usually have the info on there.

ideally grab identical sticks with the same timings for the best performance.

The same

Pull all your ram sticks out. Look at the back of the sticks and copy down the timings listed on the back.

check your motherboard manual and reinsert the two identical sticks into where you’ll enable dual channel mode.

go back into the bios and check that the timing and speed detected in your bios match the back of the sticks. I’m not sure if you’d have an XMP profile option but if you do just enable that
